The story so far
In 2013 Fat Old Dad celebrated their 30th Anniversary.
Formed in May 1983 Fat Old Dad have been on the entertainment scene for 34 years and in this time they have appeared at many prestigious venues such as Arsenal Football Stadium and the 1500 seater Apollo Theatre Oxford to name just two. They have been interviewed twice on BBC Radio and also Ireland`s RTE Radio. They have performed at Butlins well over 40 times. Visited Belgium, Holland, and Ireland and appeared in cabaret for Bourne Leisure, Pontins, Park Holidays, The Gala Clubs, Stena Sealink and The Olau shipping Line.
In 2005 they performed in front of 10,000 people at the Broxbourne Firework Festival.
Fat Old Dad were also invited to perform at The MerseyBeatle Convention in Liverpool which is attended by 80,000 people who come to Liverpool from all over the world for this event and to celebrate the Beatles and Sixties Merseybeat music generally . In 2006 they performed with Love Affair at the `Party in the Park` and Steve Scruton of BBC Radio Essex said of them on his radio show ` it was my privilege to hear one of the best bands around – Fat Old Dad who, in my opinion, can compete with anyone out there`.
Over the years they have appeared with and supported many big name artistes:- David Essex, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Freddie and the Dreamers, The Searchers, The Fortunes, Mary Wells, Chubby Checker, The Crystals, The Supremes, The Fourmost, Marty Wilde, The Platters, The Drifters, Chas & Dave, Frank Carson and Keith Harris to name just a few.
In their 21st year they performed two celebration concerts at The Empire Theatre, Halstead both of which were sold out. On Saturday 11th October 2008 they appeared in their 25th anniversary concert at The Empire. This was also sold out and they left the stage to a standing ovation. They perform three shows` The Searchers and Hollies Experience `, the ever popular ` Sixties Explosion ` and Music Across The Decades` All has are very successful in concert format in theatres and in Holiday Parks.
FOD have a great insight The Searchers music as Tony Jackson, The original lead singer of The Searchers, selected them to be The Tony Jackson Group and to back him on his `Tony Jackson sings The Searchers` shows`.
They are four very experienced musicians who are well used to appearing in Theatres, Clubs, Holiday Parks, Outdoor Arenas and Dances. They are Completely self contained with a 2.5K PA and a very effective light show. An excellent rapport with their audiences and their madcap humour endears them to their legion of fans who over the years grown with them. An Evening with Fat Old Dad is an evening of Great Entertainment.
